A study of the 50 largest US cities by Harvard and UC Berkeley in 2014 ranked Charlotte dead last for upward mobility.* Despite our city’s thriving economy, there have been minimal improvements since the report. When you factor in the impact of COVID-19, under-resourced children’s educational needs are even more prevalent.
By God’s grace, Brookstone is playing a growing role in shaping Charlotte’s future. We partner with families to provide a strong foundation during kindergarten through eighth grade.
We realize that an excellent education extends beyond the academic year.
In the book, The Summer Slide, the authors state, “The summer months can be considered the most inequitable time for young people in this country…. It’s the summer when the gap widens and the experience varies most widely based on income.”**
At Brookstone, our solution to summer learning loss is one of our favorite programs. A fun, educational summer camp, available to our students.
This month, we are seeking to raise $140,000 to reach our budget goals. It will cover the remaining need for our 2022 summer camp.
